Does Aer Lingus fly to Liverpool?

I've always preferred to fly Aer Lingus and have never had any problems with them but I've just spend a frustrating hour trying to find out out details of their flights to Liverpool. Now, however, I'm starting to get the impression that they don't fly there. I find it incomprehensible that the country's national airline doesn't fly to one of the most important cities in the UK, but their website doesn't accept Dublin - Liverpool queries and I can't get through to their telephone enquiry service. And apparently they don't have an email enquiry option apart from very specific service areas like group enquiries, medical enquiries etc. All in all I'm severely unimpressed. I'd expect this kind of mickey mouse nonsense from Ryanair but not Aer Lingus. Advice would be appreciated.

If you want to know what airlines fly where from Dublin, check the Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin_Airport#Airlines_and_destinations

This is incredible stuff. Why? Surely it can't be unprofitable?

What's Mickey Mouse about not flying to Liverpool? Personally I would have thought it was a viable route with the numbers travelling from Ireland to watch Liverpool FC but I'm sure Aer Lingus know more than me and have their reasons.

Not any more. They did restart it with the connection-to-transatlantic-flights angle, but it was cancelled in January as it never "took off"

You don't find it bizarre that the country's NATIONAL airline doesn't provide a service to one of the most important cities in the UK? What am I missing? By the way, the mickey mouse comment was more in reference to the fact that I couldn't get through to them by phone and they don't do email, apparently.

They flew to Liverpool last year but stopped flying there in January. Manchester is only 1 hour away by train.

What's being the flag carrier go to do with it? Aer Lingus is a private company seeking to maximise its profits. They're not going to fly a loss-making route just because it's an 'important city' in the country. If that was the case they'd still have Cork flights.

Not particularly. I'm sure they have their reasons. Maybe they think their flights to Manchester cover it.

Its a commercial airline, if it isn't profitable, it gets cut. Romantic ideas that Aer Lingus is anything other than commercial entity is silly. It isn't even Irish anymore, it belongs to IAG group. In other words British Airways / Iberia and maybe others.

Why do you believe Liverpool is one of the most important cities?

Liverpool isn't the Outer Hebrides. I'm no businessman but I'm just taken aback that it would be unprofitable to fly there. Consider me "enlightened". *Sighs" Ryanair it is then, I suppose.

    35 minutes normally

Flew it around this time last year and it was on the little ATRs. There wasn't much in the way of passengers on the plane. Plus Liverpool is a horrid little airport with crap transport links. No rail or tram links to the city compared to manchester

I have flown to Liverpool a few times each time the plane was full

Aer Lingus are certainly no better than Ryanair these days....those days of our national carrier being a symbol of pride and a "premier" airline are long gone.
The only advantage Aer Lingus hold over their fellow low cost rivals is that they still get offered the better terminals at big airports for some reason.

There are a number of buses to Liverpool City Centre or to Liverpool South Parkway.

What airports are you comparing it to?

Granted it's not Manchester but there are worse

Liverpool is a small airport with a single runway and poor transport links. It has no attraction as a hub for someone flying from Dublin as there is virtually no destination that you can get to from Liverpool that you cannot fly to direct from Dublin - with the possible exception of some obscure regional UK airports.

If you have business in Liverpool, in many cases you would be better off flying to Manchester because there are four morning flights from Dublin (vs. one at 7:05 to Liverpool) and there is a mainline railway station at Manchester airport from where you can get a nonstop train which will take you to Liverpool Lime St. in 64 minutes.

It is not a national carrier. It is a private airline.

From Dublin there is one morning flight to Liverpool and four to Manchester - go figure.

To be honest I'm not surprised they cut it. I flew this time last year on Aer Lingus to Liverpool & my flight was cancelled as there were only 5 people booked on it & put onto the next flight. It was a small plane & it was in no way full either.

Is that not because their air fare was too high?

When Aer Lingus operated the route using jets the air fare was extremely competitive, that didn't help the route much.

That the route was cancelled? Was cheaper than Ryanair when I flew last year. That's why I picked it. Looking at going this year for same timeframe and is going to cost about €60 more than Aer Lingus last year.

I just can't understand someone being fussy over which airline to use for a 35 minute flight. Don't worry about getting hawked stuff during the flight because it's so short that they don't have time to do much more than go up and down the aisle with the food/drink cart once.
