I'm probably a bit 'mature' to be giving fake tan a try, but have a big occasion coming up and want to look my best.

Appointment is in 2 weeks time.
All beautician said was to moisturise.
But surely it can't go into freshly moisturised skin?

What's the best way to prepare my pasty body?

Exfoliate maybe three times before app def the night before anyhow! And moisturiser every day! Your skin be A1 then for it! Don't moisturise before going in it the tan won't stick! Just do it plenty between now and then and you should be fine! Pay attention to knees, elbows, and feet!

24hrs before exfoliate like crazy (cocoa brown tough stuff sachets are great for this) and moisturise REALLY well. Then before the appointment shower off all the oil/ products off your skin.

Maybe ring the salon again about if they want you to moisturise before the tan itself, or the day before, I would only apply moisturiser to dry parts of my body; knees elbows feet etc. But perhaps you need to moisturise everywhere for the specific tan that salon uses.

    Thanks for the replies.

My skin can be a bit 'clammy' after I use a body moisturiser so it didn't make sense to me to moisturise immediately before the tan application.

I was in your shoes two weeks ago, was so nervous going in! Don't moisturise beforehand, and do exfoliate a bit the previous few days. I asked lots of questions but still ended up with a much darker tan than i wanted, luckily it was just a dummy run for my wedding so no harm done. So make sure to ask exactly when you need to wash it off for the depth of colour you need.

Going for my first spray tan on Wednesday! It's a trial run for my wedding so I'm hoping it looks well! Trying the bronze leaf tan. Has anyone here tried it before?

Bronze leaf was the other option in the salon I went to (Brazilia). I went for the Lycon which came up really nicely, i just left it on too long.

Addle, just moisturie and exfoliate over the next week until your appointment.
Pay attention to any rough patches i.e. knees and elbows. Shave or wax a day or two before your appointment if you need to.
On the day, don't out anything on your skin, even deodarant if you can bear it.dont use any perfume etc as this can interfere with the tan. Bring some loose clothes to wear home...preferably dark colour. Bring something to tie up your hair.

    Thanks.
I'm booked in day before event, but will have loads of jobs to do that may mean me working up a sweat.
    Will that affect it?

Can you get it done the day before? Sweating off your tan is a very bad look, really try avoid it if you can.

Well I got the ran and was happy enough with the result but not the application process.
I'm going to try a moisturiser with a gradual tan effect for my next event.
    Any recommendations?

    I've used em all!
The Garnier daily tanner is great. The darker version is best as the light one takes ages to show up. One or two nights of applying gives a nice golden glow.
Dove summer skin is also lovely...again the darker version.
Palmer's cocoa butter beyond bronze is nice ...feels lovely and moisturising and smells lovely but can go a bit streaky on legs if you're not careful.
I would also recommend cocoa brown tan.... it's an actual mousse tan . You just lash it on with a mitt and shower off after a few hours and you're nice and bronzed. It's great co it's tinted so you can see if you miss any areas so the margin for error is low. Just be careful on feet and hands and put a small amount on these and knees and elbows.

Out of interest what was it about the spray tan you didn't like?

I just didn't feel comfortable when it was applied.
Totally my issue. Beautician was very professional.

I love the cocoa brown gradual tanner, gentle bronze, the scent is this nicest of all the gradual tanners I've tried and the colour is really nice

My favourite gradual tanner is Dove Summer Glow.
