How are city diesel bans going to be implemented?

    Hi folks,
Just curious how these might materialise? Will it be an honor system? Will it be a customs like check to see if you have petrol or diesel in your car tank? Apart from extra noise and maybe D lettering somewhere on your car.. How obvious is it your car is diesel? Maybe cameras like the toll bridge where if your plate it's picked up you will receive a fine in the post?
    Cheers,
    Mick

ANPR plus access to the vehicle registration records.

Auto fine for driving a registered diesel car into the zone.

    It will never happen here.
Vrt will increase on diesels and they will be retired from the market by age would be my guess.

It will only affect new diesel cars from the date it is introduced.

I said if they materialise... Just a lot of talk about it.. That being said... Are the euro 6 compliant diesel engines as bad for NOX?
    Thanks,
    Mick

    Thanks,

Euro 6 diesels have limit of 0.08 g/km of NOx
Euro 6 petrols have limit of 0.06 g/km of NOx

Norway has a similar situation to us. Motorists were encouraged to buy diesels and now they actually have started testing bans out.
    https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jan/16/oslo-temporarily-bans-diesel-cars-combat-pollution
Doesn't mention exactly how ban was enforced.

    January 2017
Oslo will ban diesel cars from the road for at least two days this week to combat rising air pollution, angering some motorists after they were urged to buy diesel cars a few years ago.

The ban will go into effect on Tuesday on municipal roads but will not apply on the national motorways that criss-cross the Norwegian capital. Better atmospheric conditions are expected on Thursday. Motorists violating the ban will be fined 1,500 kroner (£174).

Thanks seems like making all city buses and taxis electric would probably be a lot more effective and maybe banning pre euro 6 engines..

I'd like to see all diesel and petrol cars banned from Dublin city center.
I don't think it will ever happen though.
But wait for there to be a toll put on traffic going into Dublin. That will happen. Irish governments love taxing things. They wouldn't care about stopping the cars they just want taxes for them.
They'd actually try to do it i. A way that gets more cars going in i bet, so they could bleed the motorist.

But i hardly ever go to Dublin these days, so I'm not one it would effect.

Then if it doesn't effect you, why would you hope to see it happen.

In Germany diesels not fulfilling Euro4 (so generally nearly anything older than 2006) were banned from cities for a long time now.
Nothing new really if other countries start introducing it, but I can't see it as full diesel ban.
Probably they'll just go by Euro norms.

London , from Oct this year , not a ban , but a tax on cars older than 2005.
    (and all V.W.s).
probably on number plate recognition like current congestion charge .

Must be the green warrior in me I suppose.
But if I did drive in Dublin, the green warrior might get locked in the boot tbh.

So how do propose people who live in Dublin get deliveries and services to their homes.
There are much worse things creating a burden on our health service.

OK, so it's not a ban but just tax.
And as I said above, actual ban on older diesels (below 2006) applies in most bigger German cities for years now.

I'd be surprised if they introduced total ban on diesel vehicles anywhere.

London is effectively banning pre-euro6 diesels from 2020
