Irish drivers have a weird fetish for using diesel cars on short journeys and it's cheap tax.

You're going to have to look to the North or U.K. These cars were released at the height of the Diesel bonanza, you'll only find a few big petrol 4s, a5s here the odd time.

Very difficult to get any nice petrol motor in Ireland since the Greens gave chape tax on diesels. Another few years & petrol will be in the majority, me thinks.

It'll be electric instead of petrol or at least hybrids/PHEV

Just to counter the "paddy loves diesel" thing, in the uk there are 10 diesels for every petrol for sale on the A5. Same story with the 4 series.

A lot of these cars would be company cars, where BIK is paid on emissions, also the companies can't claim VAT on buying petrol.

QFT. Petrol versions of either are hard to come by in the UK (I know since I live there), and if you do see a 4 series petrol it's only a four cylinder engine, and there is no point in buying a petrol BMW unless it's got the straight six.
