    Morning all

My daughter-in-law looking to change her 08 Fiesta 1.4 auto. Car has served her well but kids getting bigger, there's now a dog...and we're keen to upgrade given the cars 10th birthday. Anyway...I'll be assisting both in an advisory and funding capacity !.

No point in diesel as it's all short/town driving. Are the 1.2tsi cars worth looking at ?. I've been checking out both Golfs and Yetis. Any other strong suggestions/views ?. Can't be any smaller than the Fiesta, preferably a little bigger, and must be auto given her licence.

    Thanks for any suggestions/advise.

    K

Would a Honda Insight be an option? Also, if you give us a budget, it might help a great deal in narrowing down your options.

If there is a second car in the house for long drives, used Nissan Leafs are pretty good value and well equipped if boot space is adequate for your needs.

I'd be wary of the 1.2 TSI engine tbh.

The Toyota Auris is available as a hybrid too if you want a Prius that doesn't look like a Prius. You also have the Hyundai Ioniq which is available in 3 versions ie hybrid, plug in hybrid or full electric vehicle.

    Why ?
you have got me worried now,
I am looking at getting one later this year as the second car, a 1.2 TSI engine with DSG, should I be looking for something else.

Timing chain issues on the earlier ones.

Good afternoon all. Sorry for delayed response as I've been away over Easter. I appreciate all the replies - many thanks.

I should have mentioned budget/year...I'm thinking 10K-ish and would need to be looking at 2011/2012 to make the change worthwhile.

The EV did cross my mind...although I'm concerned the charging regime might present a challenge for the driver in question !. The Hybrid option would be more practical I think. I am right in thinking a Hybrid can be looked at and driven as a normal petrol car...with the benefit that an electric motor can contribute as-and-when ?.

    Thanks,
    K

Yes, with a hybrid you just drive as normal. No charging or real maintenance for the hybrid bits.
