Heading down to West Cork this weekend. A drive I've done loads of times but looking for somewhere different to stop this time for some food.

Places we've stopped in over the years:

    Kilcoran Lodge
    Horse & Jockey
    Coffee shop in Innisshannon
    The hotel in Innishannon
    McDonalds :(
    That mid-way place (never again)

    Any other suggestions?
    Has to be kid friendly.

    Thanks

Hey. There's a place in Cashel (about an hour and 15 from Dublin) it does have a McDonalds, but it also has a lovely garage that do nice coffee, sandwiches and salads. There's a seating area at the top and seems to be very child friendly.
Douglas (just outside Cork and off the Dunkettle roundabout) has many places to stop including KCs which is delicious and people travel from everywhere to go to.
There's a few nice restaurants in Fermoy that aren't a million miles off the motorway. There's a nice little garage just outside Abbyleix that again does nice salads and sandwiches too.
Are you looking for a quick stop or restaurant type of food?
I'm from West Cork so happy to recommend other places.

Slight exaggeration. There's more parking opposite the garage as you come past the exit for the McDonald's drive through.

Wow - wasn't expecting that may replies this early!

Oh yeah we've stopped off in Douglas a couple of times too and also the O'Brien's garage just after the Dunnes before you take the road West. (Have actually eaten in that Dunnes too!).

Anyone ever stop in The Viaduct?
Always has plenty of cars outside it.

Will consider Fermoy but don't want to go too far off the road.

    Thanks all

The viaduct is grand, big portions of decent bar food quality. Poachers inn in Bandon is a good fish restaurant bit pricier though.
If you want to stop earlier in the trip Cahir is the nicest town in Tipperary with a park and a castle to view. Another option but quite a bit off the main road is Templemore. It has a fantastic park with playground, lake and fairy forest if ye fancied a picnic.

Corbett Court outside Fermoy (Kilworth) you don't have to deviate far off the M8. Extensive menu and lots of fun details in the decor. Plenty of car parking too.

The Viaduct's excellent also, never had a bad meal there. :)

Kirby's in Ballinhassig is lovely and just off the main road to west cork.

Big fan of the Mill's inn in Ballyvourney, when the sun is out you can sit outside. Ice cream on the other side.

No it's just off the Bandon Road as you leave Cork. Mostly carvery stuff but to a very good standard. I've only ever had lunch there and have never been disappointed.

It can be, it's very popular. Here's a link to Trip Advisor reviews for more tips!

They do pub grub as well on the bar menu. Burgers, steak, lasagne and that kind of stuff.

They've extended the car park now out towards the halting site. Not nearly as much pressure on car spaces now as there used to be.

    Wow - loads more suggestions.
    Thanks all.

Have also eaten in Corbett Court at some stage - very Wild West decor :)

How far west are you going? Farm on main street of Clon is lovely and definitely open Friday.

Heading to Goleen (about as far South West as you can go)
We can take the road to Clon but usually take the Bantry road from Bandon

Ha nice trip, the Cork - Goleen leg would take nearly as long as the Dublin - Cork one!

The Copper Grove in Bandon also is excellent, it's located on the square in Bandon so would be on the Bantry route.

Edit: Probably shut Good Friday though.

The Snug bar in Bantry does great food but it's quite small and extremely popular so you may be waiting a while to get a table which may not be ideal if you have young kids with you.

Thanks but sure once we're outside Bantry we usually just crack on to Goleen

Will check them out one Friday when we're in for the market though.

    Thanks all for the tips
