Have just imported an RX8 into Ireland from the UK and it's down on the log book as a 2.6. I know a few other RX8 owners in Ireland and they all have 1.7 on there log book.

How can I get this fixed and get a partial refund from the tax office?

What was on the UK V5 for it? I think the 1.7 on the log book was a result of direct Japanese imported models. Was the car originally registered in Japan or UK from new?

This rings a bell... I believe someone posted here about a similar situation, and they had to contact Mazda Ireland and get some sort of form of conformity or similar to state that vehicle with vin# xyz has a cubic capacity of a 1.7L

I'm on a phone, so can't search easily.

But do a search on boards.ie , or contact Mazda Ireland.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get the log book reissued as a 1.7

Need to check what CC it's down as on the V5C, hopefully smaller than 2600CC.
I have previously read the thread about getting a rotary reclassified as a 1.3 but I know the tax office no longer allow that. So I'm not certain what they will think of getting it reclassified as a 1.7. But I can only try.

    Thanks for the help.

They are usually registered as a 1.7 for tax purposes and considered a 2.6 for insurance reasons, however, use this as an opportunity to get it properly classified as the 1.3 which it actually is.

Might involve some running around and getting an engineers report directly from Mazda.

I'll be worth it though and I know it has been done before.

I suggest posting up on irishrotary.com for more specialist advice :)

That deal has been shut down unfortunately.

Tax is all €636 now for RX8s.

I've read that before and I think it's incorrect. The car will fall into an insurance group (which aren't published). Classifications are not necessarily c.c. dependent.

I had one and my Insurance Cert had it down as a 2.6 ... Not sure if this is still the case though as it was a good few years back
