If you were starting from scratch, what would you buy?

I feel like a total overhaul of my makeup collection. So I'd love to hear what people would buy if they were starting with nothing at all, because that's what I'm tempted to do.
The only things I feel inclined to keep are a Kat Von D tattoo eyeliner and L'Oreal true match foundation and powder. I've pretty good pale skin.

    Things I currently love and would rebuy in a heartbeat;

Beauty Blender - I've had such an about turn on this product because at first I just didnt get it. I still only use it for dabbing in my consealer and finishing off my foundation but it really makes a great difference to the over all finish.

MakeUp Forver HD Powder - this is my finishing powder

Infallible 24 Hour Matte Foundation - first time I've bought a "drugstore" brand foundation in years but I'm impressed. Recently I've been mixing it 50/50 with Mac Studio Fix and the combination is brilliant.

Image SPF 32 Matt day time moisturizer for under my make up. Best daily SPF product out there IMO and a total non negotiable for me.

I'm probably more wedded to my skincare routine than and one aspect of my make up, which generally I find replaceable.

Edit: this eyeshaddow is actually pretty special http://www.charlottetilbury.com/ie/luxury-palette-the-vintage-vamp.html

I dont really see the point in collecting makeup - so maybe this post isnt going to be helpful but only get what you actually need.

Firstly good skincare, then far less makeup is needed.SPF daily above all.

A good TM or light coverage foundation (I use - Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum or Nars Sheer Glow), something to fill/define eyebrows (nothing heavy - i use the Eyeko Brow Gel) and a flattering creme blush (Laura Mercier - Canyon). Some blotting sheets and maybe a pressed powder (Sephora/Becca pressed powder). A mascara if you like them (i use Clinique Lash Impact).

That would be me done. The only frivolous thing i would have would be 2 Chanel lipsticks and 2 Lipstick Queen lipsticks.

So much makeup sold looks good in theory and on adverts - it looks terrible in real life.

Foundation: I love the look horrors Bourjois city radiance gives, only problem is in as white as a ghost so the palest shade is a wee bit dark, but I just bronze up my neck. I use Mac Pro Longwear on a night out. Im NC15 and it just seems a wee bit darker than another Mac foundation I have, but it goes perfectly when I have tab on. I wouldn't consider it an everyday foundation anyway. I also love double wear, but it's a bit heavy for everyday use. I'd wear it if I was out with no tan.

Concealer: can't go wrong with Collection. Around the €5-6 mark.

Powder: Mac mineralize skinfinish. I have a light and medium one depending on tan. Still on the hunt for a good loose one, dying to try Laura Mercier but my poor account can't handle it at the moment.

Eyeshadow: my holy grail is the Anastasia Beverly Hills modern renaissance palette. I also use urban decay. I don't mind spending money on eyeshadows. They're worth it if you get the pigment, staying power and blendability from them. Nothing worse than putting on a cheap eyeshadow and it disappearing from your eye a few hours later.

Bronzer: benefit hoola is lovely. However I've recently started using a wet n wild contouring kit in the shade Dulce du Leche and I love it just as much, and it's a fraction of the price! Has a highlighting powder and a large bronzing powder perfect for Irish skin tones

Blush: my sister got me nars orgasm as a present and I love it, but I also have a standard loreal one which has great pigmentation.

Highlighter: Mac soft and gentle during the day, Mary Lou manizer if I was going out. However the Mac one looks fab at night if you spray your brush before applying it.

Primer: smashbox photo finish. Haven't used it in ages, but I can't justify buying it as I bought a stila one to try not too long ago which I don't think I'm loving as much. On the eyes I use a Mac paintpot in the shade painterly.

    Mascara: loreal volume million lashes

Eyeliner: Kat von D tattoo liner (the only one I can do a half sort of a wing with). During the day I'd just wear a Mac PowerPoint liner in the shade stubborn brown.

Brows: I use ABH. dipbrow pomade if I'm heading out. Otherwise I just fill in lightly with a loreal pencil.

Lipstick: I am a lipstick hoarder, I couldn't possibly tell you my favourites. But I use Mac and rimmel lippies. Recently really got into rimmel, the Kate collection is fantastic.

Lipliner: I generally use Mac but I picked up a bareminerals moxie liner in tk mass for next to nothing a few weeks ago and I've worn it nearly every day.

Setting spray: urban decay all nighter is great. I've also started using avene thermal water during the day. Thought it was a gimmick at the start but it does revitalise you during the day.

I bloody love make up and I spend far too much money on it. I can't do it that well but I just love the confidence it gives people.

I am an absolute makeup hoarder but if I had to stick to a few holy grail products/brands it'd be the following:

    Primer: Smashbox photo finish

Foundation: No7 or Illamasqua for going out

Powder: I dont use a setting powder but I love the smashbox powder contour kit

Highlighter: inglot sparkle dust or HD highlighter

Eyeshadows: ABH modern renaissance without a doubt!

    Mascara: smashbox full exposure

Lipstick: Gerard Cosmetics hydra matte liquid lipsticks or Colourpop ultra satin liquid lips.

Brows: I like a strong brow and use NYX brow gel.

Concealer: No7 instant radiance or collection lasting finish.

    Eyeliner: inglot gel liner

Blush: No7 honey or apricot blossom

    Primer - Nyx Angel Veil.

Foundation - Either the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation or the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation.

Concealer - I use two; one to highlight and the other to conceal imperfections. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. Those have the best shades matching my skin tone.

Setting powder - Rimmel Stay Matte. It's so inexpensive but does the job really well.

Eyeshadow - Urban Decay Naked palette or the Too Faced Chocolate Bar. Eyeshadow is one thing that I'll splurge on. Longevity and quality is super important for me.

Contour - Wet n Wild Contour Kit in Dulce de Leche. It comes with a highlighting powder in a banana shade which is perfect for my under eyes and a warm, but not too warm, contour. Again perfect for my skin tone.

    Bronzer - Benefit Hoola Bronzer.

Highlight - Depends if I'm going liquid or powder. Nyx liquid illuminiser or the Sleek Solstice Highlight Palette.

Blush - Just any, usually go for L'Oreal.

Brows - Depends again if I'm going for fleek brows or natural fluffy brows. Will either use an Inglot brow pomade with the Nyx thin eyebrow pencil and the L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper, or go without the brow pomade for a natural look.

Lipstick - Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams are my favourite. If I want a normal satin finish then the Maybelline lipsticks are fine.

Mascara - Maybelline Push Up Drama. It's quite new but it's so good.

Eyeliner - Nyx Liquid Liner and the Clinique liner pencil, not sure what it's called.

Jeez I think my husband would be delighted if I got rid of my makeup and started from scratch - it would free up so much space in the en-suite!

    • Primer - Benefit Porefessional & another silicone primer
    • Foundation - Catrice HD foundation
    • Concealer - Catrice or NYX liquid concealers
    • Powder - Rimmel translucent powder
    • Eye primer - Wet n wild primer
    • Eyeshadows - Blank canvas master series palette
    • Eye liner - a kiko liner that I picked up last month, finally a liner that doesn't transfer. Although NYX glide on liners are a close second and they are easier to get a hold of.
    • Mascara - Catrice glam & Doll
    • Eye brows - I don't really bother/get time to do eyebrows but if I could get my hands on the cheap blonde MUA eyebrow pencil I got in the UK last year it would be great, i'm nearly down to the butt of it now.
    • Blush - I have a palette of blushes from Benefit that I got at Christmas, it's in a bulky tin but covers all.
    • Highlight - the balm mary lou
    • Lip liner - penneys ones are just fine
    • Lipsticks - I would get a few Mac ones - Velvet Teddy for daytime, Girl About Town cos it's my absolute favourite lipstick, and probably Ruby Woo to have a red.

I'm a bit of a makeup hoarder, to be honest but I've discovered new brands and items so it would make it easier.

    Primer - Gosh Velvet touch
Concealer - Urban Decay Naked concealer
Foundation - Makeup forever Ultra HD/ Kat Von D lock it liquid foundation
    Powder - No7 pressed powder
    Blush - Bourjois/ No7
Eyeliner - NYX liquid liner/ Kat Von D tattoo liner
Mascara - Benefit Bad Gal/ Smashbox eyebright
Eye Primer - Urban Decay- Sin
Eyeshadow - mostly Urban Decay I love the pigment and stay power
Lip liner - Urban Decay 24/7 glide pencil
Lips - Urban Decay Vice lipsticks, No7 Lip Crayon, Kat Von D Liquid lipsticks. I've hauled on these as I find their pigment and staying powers amazing.

I feel like I'm missing something but oh well 😂 for highlighter I actually use certain eyeshadows
