So I've already posted about migrating from my current to my new laptop and the plan was, to get a 500GB SSD with the new laptop as it was cheaper and then swap it with the 1TB Samsung Evo 850 I have in my current laptop. Well I was just looking at a video on how to upgrade the SSD of my new laptop, the 9560 Dell XPS and noticed the SSD looked a lot smaller than what I put into my current laptop (XPS L502X).

1TB SSD's are not cheap and I was hoping to simply swap it over, but now it looks like I'll either need to stick with the 500GB SSD for now, or buy a new 1TB one, which at around €300, or more? I definitely don't want to.

If anyone has any suggestions, please share :)

Are you talking about 9 vs 7mm or is the 9560 an m.2 slot? *Googles*

Yeah, its mSata. Which was pretty much a given with an ultrabook.

Just put the current 3.5" into the HDD bay in the front of the chassis. Done.

If the system wasn't ordered with a HDD then it won't have the cradle or the SATA cable.

Yup, from what I know, there's no space for it since I have the bigger 97whr battery, so looks like I'll have to use the 500GB one for the time being.

I wonder how much I'd get for the 850 Evo second hand though?

Also, can the 500GB SSD in the 9560, go back into the L502X by any chance since it's smaller, or is it completely different?

If its definitely MSATA and not NVME(PCIE) - they look the same - then you can adapt it back to the larger connector in your old machine.

SSD prices are jike JU88 dive bombers, a little patience and they'll be cheap as chips.

Thanks a lot folks, definitely not going to mess around with make shift mounts and taking the SSD apart though. I guess I'll just have to try sell the EVO 850 SATA and replace it with a PCI one!
