    Hi
I'm new to this so any help appreciated! We installed a defro boiler in our garage 3.5 years ago and 6 weeks ago it started leaking very badly. The emergency cut off valve leaked and plumber came and replaced it but didn't further investigate and apparently the balloon in the pressure vessel is burst and the pressure in the system caused the boiler to leak inside. (I think it's leaking in 4 places)? Heat exchanger is guaranteed for 4 years but supplier says that defro are refusing to replace! Not sure where to go from here? Saying it will prob cost approx €1800 to replace. Anyone any advice?

Is this the first time you had a problem with it ?

Have you had to top up the water pressure in the past 3.5 years and if so, how often ?

There is an automatic filler valve on it on the recommendation of the plumber. It was loosing pressure right at the start.

Not the boiler manufacturers fault then.
You have a leak in the central heating system, and constant filling with fresh water rusted your boiler internally ( that would happen with any iron boiler )
It's not a boiler warranty issue.

Your radiators, if you have any, will be in similar condition

Only iron rusts, so all plastic pipes and brass fittings will be ok.
But possible large amount of sludge (rust) in system now, so you'll now also need a power flush.

    AND LEAK FIXED

The person to blame here is the plumber. By installing an auto filler knowing there was an existing leak, he willingly let fresh water into the system. This is why your boiler has leaked and is not the fault of the burst vessel. Fresh water will corrode anything made from steel.eg, radiators, boilers, expansion vessels. You're probably going to have considerable corrosion and sludge build up in your radiators. Do yourself a favour and get rid of your plumber. He/she is an idiot
