Loss of Earnings

Just need some advice on a situation I'm currently in!
I'm recently setup as self employed with my own lorry on the road. I'm currently getting a job done to the lorry which the person who is doing the job had told me would take 2 weeks! I left him the lorry on Sunday 3rd of february hoping that I would recieve the lorry in two weeks. I was fortunate enough that the quarry I am sub-contracted to gave me a lorry to use until my lorry was ready. I was in constant contact with the said person doing the job but more than often he would not answer my calls and I had to resort to calling off different phones in order to speak to him. I was given the usual answer ' Were working well on it and we don't have that much left to do' . I asked him for a finish date but he kept on bluffing and skipping the question! I had to return the lorry I was borrowing after 6 weeks as it was needed by the quarry! It is now gone into 10 weeks without the lorry ( 4 weeks with no lorry to work with ) He has promised me it will be ready at 1pm tomorrow. The stress I have been under is unbearable as I have repayments on the lorry! I'm just wondering where do I stand in relation to persuing him for loss of earnings? I might not have a leg to stand on but I would like comfirmation atleast!
    Thank you

Obtaining a steep discount on the work done might be an idea.

I paid half the price of the job and the other half their on friday gone as it was due to be ready on saturday! I can't really deduct money as he has the lorry and refuses to let it out until fully paid so Im caught between a rock and a hard place as if i deduct money and he holds the lorry longer I will only lose out from not being able to work.
