What is best double axle or tri axle in a 12ft plant trailer. Will be used mostly for 3t digger. Dealers I've been chatting to say a double axle is steadier begin a van on the road. Also any recommendations on dealers that would have 2nd hand trailers. Anywhere at all really don't mind travelling. Thanks

If your vat registered you would be better off buying new, most plant trailers have had the stones pulled out of them. Personally I rather the twin axel for plant work. But then again I haven't used a tri axel very often bar a mates for drawing awkward kinda loads.

Unfortunately I'm not vat registered. Did you find the twin axle under pressure when using it for heavy loads ?

No, I've been a bit of an idiot with loads as far up to as 5.5 ton loaded and it's handled grand. A mate has a predator trailer for his digger and I have to say it was the best balanced and easily towed load I've found. Not really a fan of ifor. Had one for a few years and to be honest they are a bit soft. You'll wreck most vans I know I did towing a digger. You'll get used to fitting springs for starters.

What tyres are you running on it? We pull a 3t digger at work on a 10x5 plant trailer and even with a heavier tyre and a few extra psi it's tyres are well buldged

I can't remember what they were, it was stolen. But they were the heaviest I could get at the time, I was going through an awful run of flat tyres on the old ones.

So the both trailers are rated for 3.5 t so do yous reckon a twin axle will be ok. There's plenty of them about.

twin axels grand but be careful especially with ifor trailers, theres two grades of plant trailer rated at 3.5 ton.

Is that the ones you see think there 10x5 and a ramp tail door but it has no jack legs on the tail door and slightly higher sides ?

They look nearly identical, but a few of the obvious differences are: tieing eyes are welded on steel rod rather than shaped flat plate, fixed to the top of the sides, the top edge of the sides are done in box rather than a pressed edge.
