Need Help Choosing a Bike

I'm just looking for a bit of advice.

I'm thinking of cycling into work - I live a 15 min cycle from work and a 10 min cycle from my martial arts club. My housemates are both triathletes and have recommended a road/racer.

However, last summer I borrowed a really really good mountain bike off someone and loved going crazy on it at the weekends (I live beside the Phoenix Park) so think I'd be frustrated if I bought a road bike and was stuck to the roads/cycle lanes.

Is it possible to get a mountain bike that is light enough for me to use it for my commute but that also has the required suspension and brakes for proper off road stuff? Or am I looking for a unicorn?
