Improvements to a house you do not own

    I read where a tenant renovated a rented dwelling.

    The tenant is leaving and wants to take their improvements with them.

    I would assume that they would be required to return the dwelling to its original condition?

    If they cannot what happens then?

    Define 'improvements'.

    This sounds like a Daily Mail story - is the tenant going to rip out the fitted kitchen he paid for?

    Certain things become part of the property. This doesn't include fitted kitchen's according to one of the regulars here who I would have no reason to doubt. However the original kitchen would need to be put back in.

    But it's difficult to know without more info.

    I wish to be upfront and state I have no interest other than general curiosity based on reading elsewhere (not aforementioned) and a workplace story about gates.

    I am just curious and do not wish to transgress from the general to the specific.

    If they cannot find the original item what then?

    Then they'd be liable for the replacement for the original item.
