Getting really tired of slacktivism...

...news clip on BBC about Stockholm attack, ended with the usual message of defiance in the face of terrorism as people held up V signs.

Useless. As useless as the Facebook wave of covering your profile pic with the flag of a country that has just suffered an an atrocity.

The reality is, you either support the idea of bombing them to sand, or you support the idea of entering dialogue. Until either happens, can people just relax with the idea of exhibiting their latest "cause".

Good thread. There was probably literally nowhere else to post this. A good point well made.*

    *may not be true.

You forgot to put [slacktivism] tags around your post.

    Bombing, I'll wager

How exactly could you bomb individuals in all these different countries? These lone **** recently couldn't have been bombed into submission, unless you wanted to flatten half of Europe with them.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Conor's outrage on demand has reached new heights!

He's now outraged at other people's outrage...

Weren't you the poster who bemoaned the fact that the Nazis didn't wipe out all the Jews? You may have called them Zionists to hide your tendencies.

Classic slacktivism. Have you gone out and expressed your anti Semitism recently or you sticking to the armchair?

Zionist and Jewish are not interchangeable words.

Palestinian arabs are a semetic people.

Slacktivism is not a word kerry people should be using.

Surely we can when we spot an anti-Semite?

How have you expressed it recently?

I'm outraged about all the outrage here.

I'm in favour of as much discussion as people want as it is educational. I wouldn't consider it a form of activism. Profile picture flags are meaningless.

Ah but they are for people who want to disguise their hate of Jews behind pretending to give a flying fukc about Palestinians.

It depends on what you mean by useless. Will it change the world politically? No. Does it allow people to express their political opinion socially? Yes. Thats why its called social media not political mobilisation for the support of the second Kurdish empire website.

People are entitled to their views. Their views might seem a little basic to someone more politically informed but that doesnt make them less valid. And while they may also seem lacking in solutions, maybe thats because there are no easy solutions and neither bombing civilians in one part of the world for the actions of terrorists in another nor trying to have meaningful dialogue with a bunch of disenfranchised fanatics who, by their nature, keep their views quiet until they strike sounds like an effective strategy.

Mod: Can the anti-semite accusations, please. A sane thread they will not make for. Report posts that are x-ist. Or anti-semitic.
