Nissen fundoplication waiting time

    Hi everyone.

I'm wondering if anyone here has had experience of the NF surgery and the waiting-time involved as a public patient. I'm 21 years old and I've been on Nexium for the past 5 years. Even on 40 mg of Nexium I wake up a heartburn most days/ experience constant stomach discomfort etc. It's really unpleasant and I do not want to be stuck on this medication forever!

I was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia (not sure which type!) over 2 years ago after an endoscopy. It was only after changing GP that I pushed on to see the surgeon in UCHG after being told about the NF procedure. I'm awaiting the pH study and another endoscopy to assess the extent of the damage to my oesophagus, and will be having the Barium swallow test tomorrow - all to test my suitably for the procedure, which seems to be on the cards given the effect it's having on my daily life.

Assuming I were a suitable candidate, would anyone be able to tell me how long they were waiting before having the procedure? I'm in college too so I'm hoping it'd be possible to have the op during the summer-time but I'm not holding out too much hope. I just want to have an idea. Thanks for reading. :)
