Advice for lowering cost of 1st time Insurance for 39yr old Male

I'm 39, 40 later in the year, Male and I have a full Irish licence.

So I've been mostly either driving Motorbikes, living in cities or not in the country (although I've been back in Ireland long enough that its not an issue for insurance) so I have not needed a car, that is changing and I am now looking into getting myself a car. The qoutes I am getting however are much higher than I hoped, any advice?

My girlfriend did a thing with Aviva where someone was in the car with you and if they deemed you a safe driver they dropped your insurance drastically, also when I first got my first bike insurance I could do a course and depending on my score when I came out I got a discount, I got 50% off at the time. I know that was years ago but any insurance companies doing anything similar?

Would it be worth it getting my father to insure the car and going named and after a 2 or 3 year period using the named driver no claims?

Any advice is very welcome as the quotes are quite high.
