Crazy driving on N4

Hi all was driving on the N4 towards Dublin this morning. The traffic was tightly packed but moving between 100 and 120 kph. A line of cars in the overtaking lane in front of me and cars to my left. A driver in a CW reg came up behind me and for a good stretch of road I couldn't get into the left lane. He was up behind me flashing and was coming within ten foot of my rear bumper at 120kph. A couple of times the car in front had to brake and so did I and I was genuinely worried he was going to smash in the back of my car.Is it worth reporting to the guards ? Or should I just get a life and get on with my day. It's just that I really feel that this person is going to kill someone they way they drive.

Just move on. It's very unlikely they would rear end you. They were deliberately driving aggressively to scare you into pulling over, they would have repeated the process over and over. Usually followed by taking the next exit off the motorway.

As in most things, theres always a few asses who don't care about you or anyone else.

There's a whole other conversation about keeping correct distances. Obviously nobody around you was doing that, otherwise you could have pulled in to the driving lane.

This might help if you have car reg number (and possibly make\model\colour and basic driver description):

    Traffic Watch lo-call number 1890 205 805.
    http://www.garda.ie/Controller.aspx?Page=111

"The District Officer will appoint a member of An Garda Síochána to investigate a Traffic Watch complaint. The investigating member makes contact with the complainant to:-

Establish the complainant's version of events
Establish if there are other witnesses to the alleged incident
Discuss the possible actions available, including if the complainant wishes the matter to go court or have the incident dealt with by way of caution, advice or guidance

If the complainant wishes to go to Court, a written statement is taken, and if not and an offence has been disclosed, arrangements are made to have the matter dealt with by way of caution, advice or guidance. "

Yeah you're right, I was trying to leave enough space but cars kept pulling in ahead of me. There was no where for the chap to go when I moved over anyways. There was a whole line of traffic in the over taking lane.

Thanks for that! It's only my word against his so I suppose nothing could be done as it wouldn't stand up in court. I was rear ended as a learner driver 20 years ago by a driver who was twisted drunk in broad daylight so I'm really conscious of how easily it can happen.

Why didn't you just move over .you d

I did when I got a chance, didn't stop him pulling up behind me flashing his lights and gesticulating. This person was travelling within a few feet of my rear bumper at 120. I couldn't even see his reg he was that close.

Still waiting 2 years later for Traffic watch to get back to me over an incident I reported where a cretin cut from the outside lane of the M1 to exit in front of us, which could have ended very nasty.

Seems it's part of the malaise of the Garda force, so wouldn't waste your time or breath reporting it tbh

Hazards are the best for this IMO.

I don't hog the overtaking lane at all, but no matter what speed you're doing some arsehole needs to be faster.

The second you pass the car you've overtaken, they then try to undertake and cut up the other car. All at 140kph+.

Did you follow up on it yourself? Granted it might be late but they should have a record of some sort of outcome on their systems.

It's like telling people not to go outside because you got caught in a rain shower without an umbrella last week.

The Gardai being a waste of space in an instance like this is as likely as rain at least.

Is it traffic corps who "follow up" on these reports? Considering the newspaper articles indicating they are to be disbanded and rebranded (fraud squad? ;-) ) I can't see them busting themselves to chase these things up.

Common on that road. I drive it everyday, one i've really noticed is a woman in a fairly new almera/pulsar, red one. She easily does 90/100mph and undertakes, weaving through traffic, roaring and hand gestures out her window while she's right up your bum.
Next time I see her i'm reporting her.

Should invest in a front and rear dashcam if it bothers you that much. As you said, it's just your word against his, so I doubt the Guards could do anything.

Love seeing the undercover cars pulling people on that road though.

To the b1tch on the M4 this afternoon driving the white Porsche Cayeene in the overtaking lane for at least 5 kms with no traffic to overtake- may your breast enhancements turn liquid.

Can't see how this could possibly cause trouble? Not technically correct to drive in the overtaking lane of course but still

It's just standard poor lane discipline. There's nothing worse than driving the M7 from Limerick to Dublin and having to slow down for no reason other than someone in Lane 2 when they shouldn't be. Trucks and slow moving vehicles in Lane 2 is a problem as well.
