    Hi all,
I want to split my back garden in two, and put a fence down so that hens can be free-range in one half of the garden. What is the cheapest fence for this? And where to buy the fence?
    Thanks in advance
    Seamus

Not sure of cheapest but I'd say you'd have to use chicken wire and clip their wings to stop any escapes over the fence.

It might not be a garden though anymore after the hens have their way.:D
(Depends on number and stocking density though).

Roll of Chicken wire and a few fencing poles or 4*4 buried in to the ground as polls but cut their wings (not the bone, feathers) and have it about 5 feet high.

http://www.thegardenshop.ie/mesh-chicken-wire/ bout a tenner here. Up to larger rolls in hardware at about 20.

If you are talking a smallish space then I'd put down down wood chip mulch on the area, they shred ground at an incredible rate.

I am going to try and make a tunnel out of chicken wire, waven pipe & bull wire. The idea is to make a 30m tunnel which would have a radius of 400mm and i could move the tunnel handy enough if/when needed (or add another 30m).

I have not tried it yet but others have, plan to get onto it this summer.

    Chicken Wire (67e) + Wavin pipe 50m (40e) + Bull wire 22e

For free range eggs, if that is the plan you want to look at recent changes regarding bird flu. I am not an expert!

That is a clever idea for someone who has limited space and since you can move it relatively easily, the hens have access to new ground - grass/pickings.

Great idea is an old trampoline frames as a run. Use the frame e as a run. Use chicken wire as a surround. You have to put netting on the top. After that make a frame for coop to fit into frame or make a coop to attach to the trampoline frame.

It's a good idea to be able to move it around, both for the hens and the ground to recover...they can really muck up ground in bad weather
