Mixed Hawthorn Hedge

    Hi,

I am looking to put in a section of mixed hedging at the back of the house, and was thinking of a hawthorn/blackthorn mix with some holly dotted in. Any reason for this not to work?

Am I too late to go at it this year? I think I might be....

Also, in relation to hawthorn, Ideally what I want is a hedge you that you can see through on the bottom as opposed to a solid mass. Would I be right in saying the solid mass hedge is one that has actually been made into it chopping and laying it, while the picture below which is something like I want is just left to go naturally?

    Thanks
