Honda accord- DVD disc is reading an error

I have a 2005 diesel Honda accord with built in touch screen sat Nav but it is not working properly lately. As soon as I turn on the car, I get the message "DVD Disc is reading an error" and that's it, I can't use the sat Nav or access the cars menu, to set the time for example.
I have tried removing the DVD and cleaning it but it makes no difference what so ever! Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Does everything work ok if you start car with no disc?
You could try calling into a dealer and ask them even if car is out of warranty.
This may be a known issue they might fix free/cheap.

    Does it play music CD's?
Any sign of any damage to the DVD itself?
If you have only music CD's inserted and start the car do you get any error message?

Ya it still plays music CDs no problem but there are two different drives I'd assume, you enter the music CDs and sat Nav CD in different areas. No major damage or scratches to the sat Nav CD. If you start the car without the sat Nav CD,it just tells you to insert CD and then the error message comes up once inserted

The DVD player is/was made by Alpine and the head used to give trouble. There used to be an Alpine service centre in the UK servicing these units.
Have a read of this about cleaning the head:

    https://hondakarma.com/threads/honda-accord-satellite-navigation-navi-error-reading-disc.111/live

Also you can find more info about servicing the DVD unit over Honda Karma.

I had a Honda Accord with sat nav & the sat nav drive was in the boot.
The cd drive was a separate unit as part of the radio unit on the dashboard.
