Is the message a friend of mine gets on her Android phone, with a Vodafone PAYG SIM when she tries to send ME a text to my eir mobile number.

Texts to Three and Vodafone and fones in the US all work fine, its just my number that creates the above message when the Send arrow is pressed.

    Any suggestions please?
    Thanks as always.

Is it an iPhone? Does she need to activate iMessage?

If it's an Android phone is she using Google Hangouts? If so, they are planning/ may have already removed the SMS functionality from the app. Ask her to download Google messages from play store instead.

Finally is her mobile data connection working for web browsing?

Its the same messaging interface, I don't know which one it is as I don't have the foment to hand, but earlier today sitting beside her, she sent my eir number a text and the message in subject line appeared on the screen.
She keyed in my second number and it went...strange..

Ask her to download and try Google messages. Most likely she's using Hangouts.

Explanation: If she is using Hangouts and se attempts to text someone else that also has Hangouts it will try send it via data instead of old fashioned sms, in the same way imessage works on iphones/iPads.
