P21 - Week 53 2017

Me and my husband are under joint assessment and we are bother paid on a weekly basis, so in 2016 we had a week 53 where we were both given an extra weeks tax credits and standard rate cut off. I applied to revenue for a P21 statement and I received a letter today saying that we owe them around €320 but in fact we should of received a refund of €132. On the p21 they never took into account the week 53 when calculating our tax credits and standard rate cut off point but oddly when calculating my use they gave me the benefit of week 53 but not my husband.

When I requested the p21 I went into my revenue where you can sent a message and mentioned the week 53 but got no response. I also previously phoned revenue before I requested the p21 and the woman I spoke to said that they would take into account the week 53 when doing calculation.

Would the best option be to phone revenue tomorrow and asks why this wasn't taken into account? (On my p60 week 53 is marked but not on my husbands p60 but he has been given 53 weeks tax credits and standard rate cut off point)

Any advise appreciated as I want to claim my medical expenses and fear they'll mess this up too.

The written letter requires a written response, nothing dramatic just state your case and advise you are appealing the decision re the 320
File your Med Xs claim in parallel, no need to wait

I've noticed a lot of employers are marking the X on the Week 53 on the P60, but returning only 52 weeks on their P35, confusing matters. Maybe that's what went on here

I spoke to revenue and the lady I was speaking to said that even though my husband had 53 weeks his employer had only marked 52 weeks as he got a double weeks pay in week 52 but got the extra weeks tax credits and SRCOP.

I do the payroll where I work and had week 53 marked on the P35 and she could see this but I still only got the benefit of 52 weeks. For my USC they gave me the benefit of Week 53 so I'm not sure if they understand what there doing.

She just said to me that you seem to know what your talking about so send in the P60's and a letter through My services (I also sent in an excel working so hopefully they will understand this) but it will take more than 25 working days for them to deal with it as there very busy she said.
