I got a VU+ Solo 2 from a mate who was going to throw it out as he wasnt using it. Told him I'd take it off him for spare room. Trouble is it doesnt have a connection for picking up Saorview. I;ve been reading up that its possible on these boxes to use a USB Tuner. Would this pick up Saorview or would I need something else?

I've SKy in the main room so this is just for the spare. Ta

This seems to do the trick, not cheap though.

The PlayTv tuner for the PS3 can be picked up second hand on adverts.ie and are a good option as they have a dual tuner.

Other wise anything usb-dvb-t on ebay that has these chip sets IT9135 or AF9015 or RTL2832U & R820T.

Go to ebay and search for RTL2832U & R820T. The blue or black ones are fine. Play the waiting game from China/Hong Kong though!

Be less than 10euro. You'll need to get an mcx to rf cable to connect to your wall aerial connection. They are about a euro.

The drivers can be loaded from plugins in the image on the box.

One or 2 euro in ebay ...

beware of this one which is not good value:

How can they justify 10 euro postage ;)

    Hi,

I have been using the PCTV nanostick 290e on my Solo2 for the past 2 to 3 years. Works very well (I pick up both Soarview and BBC Freeview channels in HD - living in North County Dublin). It integrates very well with the Vu+, as you can mix sat and terrestrial channels within the same bouquets, record, etc.

Only problem is that it's a little expensive. Note that the 290e has since been replaced with the 292e AFAIK.

    Good luck,
    Mr_D

PS: if you buy this one, remember to load the appropriate plugin from the feed or else the tuner won't be recognised (at least this is the case with OpenVIX).

Hi Mr_D, I have bought the 292e but I'm unable to get the VU solo 2 to recognise it. I only have the two internal tuners present.

I've installed the driver for the 292e but there's no change. Is there another plugin I should be installing?

    Thanks

    Hi Johntm,

Sorry, just seeing your post now, I was on holidays when this came in. Did you manage to get it to work? The only additional step I took after installing the driver from the feed was to reboot the box. Sorry I cannot help more.

    Mr_D
