Just wondering anyone know about getting a dog with <snip> in Finglas I lost my dog a month ago and I was initially going to wait until after my hols which is for 10 days on 19th May and start looking in June. However, I saw a dog in <snip> online two weeks ago and today I went down to see him he is a nice guy in good health and is 2yrs old. Maggie said if I am interested to ring her tonight and they would book him then he is mine I know I could have held out till June but then I mightnt find the dog I want so this is the thing, If I ring and say yes I'll take him and then they do the home check I'm wondering would they hold him for me till June I would love to bring him home in two weeks but I'm worrying about my hols ie just getting him after Easter then packing him off to a pet sitter on 18th May for 10 days the pet sitter has a child and other dog so it might confuse the dog (I dont have kids or other animals) I do like him but I don't know if <snip> would hold him for two months for me until I collect him start of June I didnt mention it today when I looked as I thought they mightnt let me have him then if I was going on holidays. I dont know weather I should take him now and he has about a month with me before I go off on hols or if <snip> will hold him for me till June. I've never bought a dog before so all new to me. Love to hear other peoples thoughts

In my opinion it would be far less traumatic for the dog to get him now and put him into kennels for 10 days next month - compared to being stuck in a dog shelter for hitting 2 months.

Folks, please don't name individual animal rescues on thread, it's against the forum charter.
    Thanks,

OP, why not ask Maggie straight out what she thinks? She's a very straight woman, and will tell you straight out what she thinks is best for the dog.
Personally, I run a rescue myself, and there isn't a chance I'd hold a dog for that long for someone, particularly as he's living in a kennel environment.
I'd be inclined to agree with jenn1984... what you're proposing is not ideal, but in the big scheme of things it's not that bad either :)

Thanks all yes she said to ring tonight to see I might message her first and give her the options and see what she thinks is best for the dog he has been there since Jan and is used to routine there and I would defo collect him in June I would even put a deposit on but if it is against they policy to hold a dog that long or she thinks it's more stressful for the dog I have the option of taking him now and hoping he will be ok in the pet sitters/taking a chance and hoping he is still there in June. I booked the long haul ages before my own dog died a month ago

We were in this boat last year, planning on getting a dog and one popped up on a rescue site (UK), the wife completely fell for her straight away, we were stuck between a rock and a hard place though as it was the wife's birthday few weeks later and we'd already booked to go away. We were hoping to get her sooner but they took an absolute age to sort a home visit.

Thankfully the lady who is now her dog walker was recommended, she offered to board her for the week we were gone.
We actually didn't enjoy the holiday as much, but she was boarded in the family home and that really set our minds at ease.

I guess the fact we knew it was short term pain for long term gain allowed us to push ahead.
