Diamond with no cert

    Hi guys,

I am engagement ring shopping at the moment and have found what I think is my dream ring (finally!!, I had no idea I was so picky!) but the ring isn't certified.

Therefore I know the carat count but not the clarity. We want to be sure we're getting the best bang for our buck so definitely want a cert. The girl in the place said they could order a cert for it, this means we'd pay a deposit on the ring and then the cert would be ordered.

My fear would be that the clarity wouldn't be as good as we'd like but we'd have already paid a deposit. Thoughts?

Are you happy with how sparkly it is, the colour, and that it is not cloudy? If so great! Who are they going to get to certify it? There are a few different companies.

A cert only matters if you are planning to sell and a cert is also worthless unless it's GIA or HRD.

We bought my ring last October and got totally bogged down in the 4C's and whether the ring was certified. TBH it totally took the fun out of the experience. If I could do it all over again I would have researched everything a lot less and would have just enjoyed the shopping. Nobody will know whether your ring is certified or what the clarity is. As the poster above said, i would just look at colour and sparkle and go with the ring you love.

What does it really matter if you need a piece of paper to prove it's worth?
As long as you like the ring, you should be happy.

To me, getting married and equating it with the best bang for your buck are polar opposites.

    Agreed!
The love of my life asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.. the ring could have been from a barn brack and I wouldn't give a flying f***. Getting engaged isn't about the ring or the diamond (it's a gorgeous plus but not be all and end all) it's about agreeing to spend your life with someone..

Have you spoken to the manager of the place. I would be politely telling them that you want to see the cert before the sale... They either want to sell it or not sell it.. You could always get one made up
