Exterior Painting in April

    Hi Folks,

I am hoping to get the Exterior of my house painted sometime in mid April depending on weather.

Looking at the long range forecast (not the most accurate I know..), currently the temperatures are between 10 & 13 degrees.

Providing the rain holds of for a few days, is this temperature too cold to paint in?

Have any of you painted in these temperatures?

    Cheers!

paint away. Once it's dry, you'll be fine.

You can pain't almost all year round in Ireland. It's the wind & rain you need to keep an eye on. Someone holding the ladder is a good idea

If it is a plastered sand/cement finish, I'd apply stabilizing primer (one coat) before 2 coats of finishing colour (get a good quality masonry paint - Dulux Weathershield or if money is no object, Farrow & Ball.)

    Great, Thanks.

That actually leads onto my next question... I was looking at Colour Trend as I have recently used it for the interior. I found it far superior than Dulux and Fleetwood. The coverage was far greater. Then again, there is a rather large price difference (worth it IMO from my recent experience).

However, I have no experience using Farrow & Ball.

In what way could either Farrow & Ball or Colour Trend be better for exterior masonry paint??

    Thanks again

Colourtrend is a joy to use and as you rightly point out, coverage is superb. Farrow and ball is more expensive but again, great to use with great coverage. Personally, I always advocate colourtrend for interior work (dont do a lot of external) but I would always say pay for good paint. For example:

Sitting room & Hall, stairs and landing in a good sized 4 bed - 10-15ltrs. Go with Dulux / fleetwood and pay €130- Colourtrend will cost you an extra €60 approx. A no brainer for something that you will be looking at all the time for years to come. Same applies to external paint. The one thing I just don't bother scrimping on is paint. Of all the larger scale works you will do in a home DIY, paint is by far the cheapest.

You're only paying for the name with Farrow & Ball!
Fleetwood is excellent. Great coverage, great prices and used by most painters and decorators.
