    Hi,

    Looking to buy an 07 Astra with over 200k I'm, recently ncted for a year and seems to be well looked after.

    Should i expect any issues with mileage or does the nct and the year give a little of confidence in it's abilities?

    Any advice appreciated
    Thanks

    Sorry I should have said, petrol

    No. buy something else.

    For an 07 car in 1.4 - the ones to get are the Corolla (02-07 type), Kia Ceed and Hyundai i30.

    What's your budget?

    Are you specifically looking for a hatchback. Or would you consider a saloon?

    Any must-haves like air conditioning for example?

    +1 on Colm.

    I helped a friend to buy a very clean 07 Kia Ceed 1.4 ex with 110k kms at odometer 2 months ago. It was 4000 euro and private sale. Nippy and spacious car it is .

    Cheap car? It's 1200 over the op's budget. I just don't get Ireland's obsession with the sluggish sloth that is the 1.4 petrol golf, I really don't.

    what do you think, google it maybe? that stuff comes up automatically when you put in the reg

    hardly mph for an 80bhp engine. 150bhp would be around that time

    Fifth post in, budget is 3k. With threads like these I tend to skim over the "buy a Golf" merchants and actually see what the OP has to say.

    You can edit what it gives you. Makes the seller look a bit silly.
    13.5 is the actual figure.

    Do yourself and buy a Honda Civic. Economic, reliable and nice to drive. Even though the 1.4 is slow, no worse than others really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    It's a good bit slower than a Corolla, Ceed or i30 to be fair. It's around the same as a Golf

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,655 ✭✭✭✭road_high

    Not driven the Ceed but didn't think much in the difference, though the newer Civic is heavy...I think we can all agree all better options than 1.4 Astra which I'd avoid at all costs...remember looking a number of years back at one for my auld one and all I remember was a weird ticking noise from an engine that had already been replaced! Took it for a test drive mainly out of pity....! But ran a mile.

    Nissan Note. A little less spacious than those mentioned above but no less reliable.

    The Hyundai/Kia 1.4 engine is 108bhp, which is a lot more than the others have (80/85)

    Hi everyone

    Thanks for your input, it's appreciated.

    Think we a gearing(no pun intended) towards a kia or Toyota now.

    I knew I'd get some decent advice here

    what makes you think that?? just because you are suspicious , that's it, its an import:rolleyes:

    people block out regs so they wont be cloned in a stolen car or m50 toll etc.

    1 owner from new car is very doubtfull an import

    stick to the sheep

    1 owner from new is very doubtful on that car either way, but without the reg who's to say.

    Performance wise

    07 Kia Ceed 1.4 --> 0-100 km/h 11.6 sec
    06 Toyota Corolla 1.4 --> 0-100 km/h 11.6 sec

    07 Opel Astra 1.4 --> 0-100 km/h 12.5 sec

    07 VW Golf 1.4 --> 0-100 km/h 13.5 sec
    07 Ford Focus 1.4 --> 0-100 km/h 13.6 sec

    07 Honda Civic 1.4 --> 0-100 km/h 14.1 sec

    if it says 1 owner car from new, it probably is. im sure if you text the owner for the reg they would give it to you

    It's not a very desirable car you're trying to flog...no way was there one owner...just no way. I'd run a mile, end of.

    not flogging anything, I saw a nice 2008 car for handy money, as golfs go , its cheap and looks nice, if its not to your liking fair enough, run a mile, the op asked for advice, and i just put it out there.

    the ad says 1 owner from new, I don't know what you cant understand from that, maybe it has 10 owners, but the ad says 1 owner, why don't you ask the seller and get back to us if it is bothering you that much besides coming out with your presumptions

    It certainly didn't come across that you were "just putting it out there", rather, you were pushing it, which suggested a conflict of interest.

    Are you really naive enough to believe what an ad on Done Deal states? I would imagine I stated fact rather than making a presumption.
