About to start a renovation on a house, and these are the steps in the back garden up to a higher level. Do you reckon that anything can be done with them to make them look a bit better, or would you scrap them?
    Prefer not to have to.

Very hard to see what the material the treads are made of. My advice would be first to clean up the whole thing with the help of a power washer, check the soundness of the timber, (if it is timber). If sound, clean up with wire brush/scouring pad/sandpaper, coat in suitable wood preservative or fence/shed stain. If the timber is unsound it would best to remove it and replace with composite (i.e.plastic) decking material.

Power-washer, then maybe some exterior emulsion. Patio magic once a year will hekp to keep the green algae at bay
