Cat spraying

    ... thankfully only outside!

Mori is four, and was neutered at six months.

I've never seen him spray before but recently he's taken to spraying the trees and hedges in the garden as soon as he goes outside. We do have a new cat in the area and a bit of an ongoing turf war... which might be contributing to aniexty about his territory...
He lives with two neutered females & has always been very relaxed. (Like relaxed to the point of falling over, even when we bring foster kittens home in kitten season, he just accepts them In the house with no complaints...)

I just found it odd to see spraying, does anyone know if this is common in neutered males? I've no concerns about UTIs etc, he's in good health.

Many neutered males and females routinely spray to claim their territory.
I think the presence of a new cat in the area is enough to make your cat spray. This time of the year it wouldn't be unusual for an un-neutered tom to have passed through your garden and marked it with his scent. Your Mori is then duty-bound to over-spray to reclaim his garden!

Be cautious when you're gardening that you don't accidentally bring tom-cat scent into the house on shoes or boots, you don't want him to start spraying inside!

All my neutered cats, male and female, spray outside, it's a territory marking behaviour and is perfectly normal, especially as others have said if a new cat moves into the area!:)
