So If Iano`s contract isn't renewed in the next couple of months who do you think will be the new host of the Today fm breakfast show ? My money is on a Male/Female duo like PJ Gallagher and Alison Spittle

I can and it sounds like Ian can too

Unless the €50k loss per day RTÉ are bringing him back nobody else can afford him :pac:

Maybe they are bringing him back to RTE with his old mucker Ray F'arcy, sure give them €1mill between them.

That sounds like torture. I can't stand Alison Spittle on the radio at all, not that PJ is up to much either! Two more incredibly unfunny "comedians".

I imagine that any breakdown in contact talks would be on Ians side. Can't see Today FM giving him the boot as they've no one to replace him with realistically but it doesn't sound like Ian is happy with the station management at all so it'll certainly be interesting to see the outcome.

In the morning, I wish they would all shut up, play a few tunes and intersperse the news, weather and traffic.
Actually that applies to the rest of the day too.
Can't stand these 'personalities' in the mornings.

tl;dr. I would prefer a playlist without chat to Dempsey, or anyone.

Sounds like something Michael O'Leary on giftgrub would say

shut up, play music, give the reports

I agree that it will be a duo that will replace him, probably a pairing like Fergal Darcy and Muireann O'Connell. God help us all.

If he is as unhappy with management as his "subtle" mentions on the show seem to hint, I could definitely see him going this year. Radio 1 might give him Ronan Collins' slot.

I was surprised that he recently appeared on the ray darcy show.

Taste is subjective. Personally I cannot fathom how anyone could find them funny.

Me neither, but then again, apparently some people find Jason Byrne funny, so I suppose everything is possible.

Does anyone like Dempsey on the radio? He has nothing going for him. He is not funny, intelligent or good at interviews. Why is he on the radio?

The question is, why would anyone care whether Ian Dempsey is replaced and who that would be?
Ian Dempsey is essentially an affable 'straight man' to Mario Rosentstock's Gift Grub, but fairly bland in fairness. Bland works, apparently, given how popular his show is, but it really doesn't matter who you have in there.
I don't really listen to radio much anymore I must admit, but I assume that Dempsey's show hasn't changed much over the years.
How are the ratings? If they're still getting the listeners, why would they change him?
Of course Dempsey himself could be angling for better deal. However if RTE sign him for a large fee then I will care.

For years I had todayfm on constantly on the radio. Bit by bit I've had to turn over at certain times. I was so disappointed with Anton Savage leaving.

If Ian goes it will probably mean I switch over to another station permanently.

I absolutely love listening to him on the way to work. He brightens my whole day.

I like him, he doesn't try to be funny or intelligent. He does what he does and seems comfortable in doing so.

His ratings have fallen by about 100k over the last decade.

Have anyone's ratings got anywhere near historical highs though? Surely radio is much less popular in the last 10 years? (I don't know the answer, just interested)

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Ian is the only thing I listen to on the radio. If he's not on I'll just switch off completely. He's a natural, no forced humour or zany "banter".

I've tired of Iano, even though I like the guy. If he dialled back on the fake laughter and forced jollity, it'd be a big help. The whole show has gone stale and he could do with losing Gift Grub (not going to happen) and Paul Collins. Having said all that, if Today FM replace him I dread to think what they'll put in instead.

haven't heard ian dempsey on radio since he was on 2fm (or whatever they called it then). he was ok then but i didn't have much to compare with i suppose:)
having said that, they're no one i want to listen to for any length of time i.e. longer than 3 seconds.

keep trying to stick with 4fm, and no pj gallagher is not funny, but god it tries my patience.
say what you will but ronan collins on rte1 is great, little talk and plays a good variety. he should be on longer and with less interruptions from joe bloody duffy and the weather forecast.
marty whelan on lyric is good. i find he can be funny without trying too hard.

modern commedians. you can keep them off radio. they just love the sound of their own voices and are not suitable people for radio shows.
whoever is responsible for picking these people for the shows hasn't a clue. think it's time to head to spotify.

There's far too much talk on so-called music shows these days. It would appear that someone just playing the records isn't enough any more.

Dempsey is perfect for the demographic today fm want , working class without being a total scumbag ,soccer and the premiership comprising 95 percent of the male conversation, a bit of entertainment news for 'the ladies ' , A little competition for a stay away in ' a four star 'luxury ' hotel with breakfAst an dinner on one night 'so they can have pretensions of being upwardly mobile ,middle of the road music ,news delivered with a guffaw even if there's a massacare going on with a survey at the end but 'science is for geniuses' , perfect opium for the masses to get them going cheerfully in their dead end jobs in the morning .
In short , Dempsey ain't going nowhere.

Iano is the nice guy, the lad who gets on with everyone offends no one and doesn't really have much of an opion on anything well not pubically anyway .
In short hes the safe bet for morning radio for the masses that just want to get through the morning with out any drama
Not saying he's boring I'd just imagine he'd be hard to fall out with.

Al Porter will be hosting the today fm breakfast show from next Monday, Ms O'Connell will be hosting lunchtime while Iano is on annual leave.

Great news as I listen to Foley till 9am then switch to Dermot and Dave and don't need to switch at 12 as Muireann will be on... Win / Win

All depends what kind of employment contract Ian has, if he's an employee hes going nowhere till he decides, if he isnt then his days are surely numbered given his age and the fact himself, matt cooper and paul mcloon all sound completely out of place now.

Dont think Al Porter will replace him as he rarely does a full week himself. Maybe Dermot and Dave will end up back on breakfast.

Al porter and the airhead who does the shoebiz news , will have to be gagged to shut them up .

Which is something that should be highlighted as damning indictment of the way that station has gone!!

To be honest, I used to listen to Ian every morning but then missed it for a while. Heard it there lately and didn't last 10 minutes - Today FM is a joke of a place now, every show has the same songs on shuffle, impossible to hear anything other than what they are plugging, completely obvious that the DJ's are not allowed to pick their own tunes anymore and the station has no identity. It just sounds any one of the numerous commerical stations out there. It used to be a leader, now it's just a clone of the rest of them in a sea of blandness....

Oh Christ no!!! How she ever got in the front door of the buliding remains one of lifes mysteries - a triple combo of stupidity, fake accent/laugh and idiocy that is top of the list for the worst on the airwaves.....
