Bike lane

Had a close encounter with a cyclist earlier. I was on a regular road in a suburban area in Cork and needed to get into an industrial estate on the other side of the road. I was stopped with indicator on, the traffic coming against me was very heavy so within a few seconds I was waved across by an oncoming driver. What I didn't see was that there is a cycle lane at that side of the road and as I drove across, a bike came from the same direction as me and I barely missed taking them out in a bad way. I got a fair fright, they seemed a bit oblivious and kept going. The poor driver who let me across got a right shock. Presumably, I was in big trouble had I hit them but I don't know how I was to see them, essentially coming up the "wrong" way. Are all cycle lanes 2 way ?

Some are, but most are one-way.

Some bike lanes are two way. I find that the simplest thing to do when driving is not to take other drivers directions. You do not know how observant they are or if they even see anything at all.
