Vibration / juddering when under load

    Hi,
    I drive a 2008 mk4 Mondeo 2.0 tdci.
Daily drive is 100 mile round trip , 98% motorway driving.

Noticed on Tuesday I had a bit of vibration when putting the power down in 5th or 6th gear, at speeds between 110kph and 130kph.
It doesnt feel like engine vibrations, more feels like friction between road and wheels.

    Things I have noticed:

    1. It seems to occur when going up an incline , whether on cruise control or on the accellerator manaully
    2. It occurs morseo when on a right hand bend on the motorway
    3. It does not appear to happen at lower speeds, or its not noticable.
4.It feels like its coming from the nearside more than anywhere else

    Things I have checked:
    1. Tyre pressures are all correct
    2. No uneven wear on any tyres

    Possibilities?

Could it be as simple as allignement has gone out on one wheel?
    Wheel balancing?
    Engine mounts possibly?
    (dreaded) flywheel?

    It it a new thing?
    Maybe lugging?

    Yes it's a new thing.
    Defiantly not lugging.
It happens anywhere between 2000 and 3500 rpm

Actually I noticed in the way home today it's definitely worse at above 100kph...if cruising along at 110 and put the power down it happens...ease off the power and it disappears.

Check the wheel nuts are all on tight with none cross threaded and not fully secure.

To eliminate wheels/tyres change the rear wheels on to the rear and if the sane thing happens it could be cv joint / bearing related.

Flywheel. Any sluggish behaviour when turning on the starter?

sounds like a deteriorating engine or gearbox mount?

    Or a failing inner drive.

So I havnt had a chance to get this looked at yet with work and all.
Was driving home from ballinasloe to Athlone today and noticed it quite a bit when going uphill in the motorway...was in cruise control at 125kmh
It's not felt through the steering wheel at all...but is felt throughout the rest of the car.

Will hopefully get it looked at this weekend

Since it seems to be under load it happens :

    Update:
still have not been able to make a trip to my mechanic , but he has a theory , and so do I

The last few days i have noticed a knocking and banging when engaging gears 1 to 4 in lower speeds and taking off in traffic.
Also i travelling at say 50 in 3rd or 4th gear, and back off and on the accelerator repeated you can hear the same knocking as if something is moving back and forth (engine or gear box).
So it sounds like one of my engine mounts has failed.

Will be calling to mechanic to confirm after work tomorrow.
i have a fair bit of driving ahead of me for work tomorrow.
Question is is it ok to continue driving it until i get sorted if it moving like that?

I wouldn't if it was mine. All that moving around will stress a lot of other components, exhaust, rubber piping, electrical connections etc. With everything cut back to the last with cars it would take very little extra movement on a connection to damage it.

Put it up on the lift this evening.
    Engine mounts are all ok.
The issue is the inner cv joint between the driveshaft and gearbox on the offside...completely shot.
Going to pick up parts in the morning.

So I need a whole new driveshaft drivers side , the unit comes as a whole and you cant gt the inner joint separately - yay.

At least you know what it is now. Maybe inner joints aren't as strong as they used to be but I've seen a few failing lately.

    Yeah...its fairly rattly.
    Drives but it's noisey.
I'll take Mrs Demanufactured's car to work until parts arrive...ended up ordering from mister auto.
Local motor factors either couldn't get it or it was going to be mental money (4 different places).
    Should have by weds hopefully

Replaced driveshaft last night.. Quiet as a mouse now with no vibration.
The old shaft fell apart when coming out

Brilliant. You wouldn't realise how bad the old drive was until it's replaced.

    Yep... Bits fell out everywhere
There was only 1 of the 3 bearings intact inside the joint.

Is it a Ford thing I wonder? FWD Transit in work had an inner drive fail, the van was undriveable it had to be recovered from the side of the road it was shaking itself to bits!! Neighbour works for a company who have Connect's and inner drives have failed on everyone of them:mad:
