Vetting - What sort of conviction stops you getting a Position

I have been offered a Clerical Officer position in a Third Level Institution, pending Garda Vetting.

I have one conviction, for assault (got a €200 fine).
The conviction will become spent later this year, but as of now the 7 years are not up.

Does anybody know if this will stop me from getting the position?

I'd appreciate responses from people who actually know what sort of convictions would stop people getting such a position, rather than people's opinions on what should or shouldn't stop somebody getting a job.

    Thanks

It honestly depends on the policy of the org.
or the type of work- if you could potentially be working with minors or vulnerable people.
ie: you couldn't get a job in a bank if you had been convicted of robbery or theft
wouldn't get a job in an airport if you have any convictions.
I think the Garda and Army etc are the same. A role where you could be dealing with serious data as well could put you out of the running.
The only experience i have is working in airport HR and we had a zero tolerance policy, mobile phone/drink driving etc to serious convictions left you straight out of the running.
The only way you will know is if you get turned down for the role. you can ask but they may not necessarily say its due to the vetting.

It really depends on their policy. I was a similar position once but I was already started in the position because they needed someone in. I had a conviction for a traffic offence, told them that it would come up and it wasn't a problem.

Just so you know, spent convicitions are disclosed for certain organisations ie Guarda, Army, Taoiseachs office. In your case though for clerical officer it wouldnt show after the 7 years as you said. If I was you I would ask them could you postpone the job until after your seven years are up. I imagine it would be an issue tbh due to the high volume of candidates they would have.

Are you sure you got a conviction and not the probation act? If unsure call the court you went to and they can let you know.
