Skoda Superb instrument light replacements

My friend has a 2011 skoda superb, the light which shows the speedometer needle has failed, as has more recently the sensor light for the rear view mirror. The local mechanic says it could be a fault in the dash which would lead to skoda garage at much expense. Any thoughts on this please?
