I have received a text message purporting to come from Revenue.ie claiming that I am entitled to a tax rebate of 820 euro. Upon clicking the link provided I am requested to provide my full details including name, address, debit card and bank account details. I have no idea for what reason I might be eligible for such a windfall.
I presume it would be normal to be first notified by letter in such circumstances.
    Thank you.

Yes it's a scam, it seems to be popular every March as the tax year ends in some countries.

Bear in mind that even by just clicking on a link you can be opening yourself up to a malware download.

Revenue have a warning about it on their webapage

firstly Revenue won't send you a text. Secondly they won't offer refunds like that. its up to an individual to claim refunds. They then might communicate by letter but more usually these days they send an email to the nominated email address on your Revenue account (which the individual will have to have set up themselves with personal information and passwords, etc). Any email Revenue does send out only tells you to log onto your Revenue account and check for correspondence. They will never send something with links, or ask you to confirm your sensitive details on an email link. stay well clear.
