Ebay seller not honouring warranty

I would just like to ensure nobody else get caught when purchasing car part from Ebay through seller bahuha or Vitesse distrubution as the company is called.
I purchased a wheel bearing which after 2000 miles started to noise. When I contacted bahuha they wanted me to supply them with the details of how the part failed, mileage covered, type of driving etc. I supplied all the details and now they say they will not cover if the part was not fitted by a qualified mechanic. It just so happens that I am a qualified mechanic but this is a bolt on and of part and anybody could fit it. After I supplied a letter on company headed paper saying this they wanted photographs so I supplied these also. I had to replace the bearing due to safety as it was gone very rough. This has been going on for close to a month and I cannot get my refund. So please please please do not deal with these people and the parts appear to have quality issues.
Just a note to people please beware of this bahuha seller and Vitesse Distribution when it comes to making a refund. Especially if you are an DIY person that has an interest in fixing there own car as they will not stand over the 2 year warranty.

Thanks to all and happy DIY car fixing

So when you told them you yourself were a qualified mechanic, what did they say?

Hi Biko, I had to give a written letter on garage headed paper saying that the part was fitted by a qualified mechanic. To be honest I think it was just a stumbling block as they had changed the listing warranty conditions in the meantime. They were expecting me to say I wasn't qualified and then they would point me toward their new terms and conditions for warranty.
This part was a bolt on bolt off part. Being qualified didn't matter as a competent DIY person could easily of changed this. Most of the people that purchase these parts via EBay are not qualified. I know I have purchased electrical items and I am not a qualified electrician but if the part is faulty is should be honoured by the seller.

Buy cheap on ebay and buy twice somewhere else.....

Pretty much all parts bought on Ebay will be fitted by the purchaser I'd have thought. They know this and will use it to avoid paying claims. For a wear and tear part I'm not surprised they're being difficult, even after so few miles. How can they verify the miliage though without an invoice for the fitting from a garage with the miliage on it.

Yep I have to agree.....Sell sell that all they seem to care about.
I wonder how much stuff they would sell if they were to ONLY sell to mechanics. But of course they will sell to anybody but wont honor the warranty.
There is a lot to be said for buying from your local motorfactors or at lease from a reputable online supplier.
Anyhow its just a heads up for anybody that might be tempted using the same supplier on Ebay

Just claim back form paypal....part not as described.... (not sure if time limits apply, but it clearly isn't as described if it is faulty

I have just opened a dispute as its over 30 days.
I think they were hoping that it would go over 180 days and then I don't think you can do anything about it.
    Hopefully it will get resolved....

I have just got word from PayPal and they went in favour of the seller. This apparently is due to the fact the part was 'As described' and fit for purpose.
I contacted PayPal via phone and they said that although it went faulty that it was okay at the point it arrived with me. They cannot intervein as the warranty is offered by the seller and nothing to do with them.
They have advised me to contact trading standards regarding the matter. How can a seller offer warranty and not stand over it.
Just beware of this company and any warranty promises as they don't stand over them.
I'm not sure if I can change my feedback either after so long.

So off to trading standards we go.....

I wouldn't waste your time, you bought cheap and got caught. eBay and quality car parts don't generally mix! You get what you pay for

Get back in touch with Paypal and tell them you bought a part with a 2 year warranty, apparently there is no 2 year warranty so it is not as described, so that is their problem, not trading standards. If the seller guaranteed it was brand new then that is not a paypal guarantee but I would expect them to enforce the actual description if it turned out to be second hand.

Were they vetech bearings by any chance? I had a pair of them fitted and they failed after a couple of thousand miles.

most ebay sellers use this tactic ( letterheaded paper etc)in the hope it will be too much hassle and you will not bother. Better paying the little extra and dropping in to your local car parts supplier
