Bees on a plane

A plane in Miami was buzzing with a giant swarm of bees clinging to the side of the aircraft. "The bees were in the area where they load the cargo, putting the employees at risk. Because the bees were there, they couldn’t load the bags. We had to take care of the situation.” http://www.cbsnews.com/news/bees-on-a-plane-flight-delayed-after-thousands-of-bees-cling-to-cargo-hold/

Do airports not have some pest control measures in force?
    Has this happened anywhere else?

When returning from Dalaman last year, once the doors were sealed a member of the cabin crew walked down the aisle spraying all the overhead baggage compartments with something, not sure what it was, but I'd imagine something to do with keeping bugs down.

I will never forget when I took my wife for her first flight in a Cessna and soon after take-off we found a bee flying around the cockpit. I had to fight it with my VFR chart while flying the plane. It was a bumpy day too and very hazy so my wife ended up getting sick into my headset case. Yeah, bad experience with bees on a plane :(

Should have called ML O Leary, he sorted out the buzz when he took them over.
