HDMI auto switching receivers

Are there any combo receivers out there that will auto switch a tv to the correct hdmi input in the same way as scart connections control their input?
I installed a Revez combo box to an older couple and showed them how to switch on the tv, switch it to HDMI input then work with the Revez remote from there onwards.
Unfortunately they just don't get it and are having a tough time understanding the concept of manually changing inputs first. I got them to write each step down so they could follow their own set of instructions, and this worked, but now they refuse to do this and end up with "no picture" and "it doesn't work" even though it works perfectly.
I'm considering making a financial loss to get this working, and a scart equipped box looks like the only option to me now.

Edit i ordered an Ariva 153, it has scart, problem solved

If you switch on tv and then switch on box it should grab the hdmi input automatically. That should be easy to remember. What is make of tv and model of tv?

It's a Panasonic, can't remember the model, but the Revez box definitely doesn't grab the input automatically, the TV has to be manually switched hence the question. But I've gone for an Ariva 153, with scart to cover all bases as they don't, like many, see the difference between HD and SD

I am surprised that the TV cannot be set to the correct input by default.

we need model number., from what I remember you can switch off all tv inputs except one.

yes we need a model number of the tv,
it is possible to set most panasonics into the 'hotel mode' and set the tv to automatically start on the correct input.
    may be this would help?

Might or might not help, this device will auto switch to the combo box automatically and works great, but the TV will have to be on the hdmi channel

Check to see that HDMI CEC is switched on in the menu on the 153, most Tv's should auto select

Well the Ferguson arrived today (from yourself) turned on CEC but it doesn't work on my own TV, an old Sony Bravia. I'll try it on the person's Panasonic hopefully tonight and hope that it works on there, along with any other tips above.
If not then I have a scart lead to make sure that it does switch automatically (SD/HD makes no difference to them) but obviously I would like to get the HDMI switching for them for that better picture, as her son will be complaining "where is the HD quality picture? You swindling my parents?" I can hear him now......

No good deed goes unpunished :-) Only other thing might be to try another HDMI lead but honestly some Tv's just don't work well on auto input selection on HDMI. Might be worth seeing if inputs other than scart and HDMI can be deactivated in the Tv's menu, sometimes that works.

Another problem you will definitely encounter with the 153 is people scrolling left and right on the remote when the channel list is displayed, this will hide the dvb channels and also hide the satellite channels unless its left on All channels. I have had to swap out a few 150's and 153's for this exact reason.

Ive moved away from the arivas for this very reason.

Ariva installed - works beautifully, connected to HDMI 1 (same as the Revez box) when it is started switches on the tv from standby and switches the tv back to standby when it is switched off - the recipients are delighted, now they only need one remote to do all. Everyone is happy and thanks to all here for help and tips - much appreciated

Most TV's the HDMI CEC is enabled on HDMI 1.

Both the box and the TV must have the HDMI CEC function be enabled for each to talk to each other. On Samsung TV's you enable this in the Source List by enabling the Anynet function in the menu.

E2 boxes allow you to configure the HDMI port for it to control should you wish to use another port, ie HDMI 2 or 3 etc.

For example on my E2 combo box, I have it configured so that it switches the Box and TV into standby with one button and wake it vice versa. There are also other options.

There is a fav button on the remote for a reason.
