Must be mad, but I have backed National Service yet again in the 9:15 at Wolverhampton tomorrow. We know this horse has ability, we know it's well handicapped, but can it get its arse out of the stalls? Going to take a chance at 14/1 win only and say my prayers it fancies things tomorrow.

Already covered in the flat thread, but also keen on Heartbreak City in the Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan at 7/1. It's the only horse that Tony has that seems to be worth a button and I'd say he's not sending it over for some warm weather training. Imagine Tony and the boys shaking the hand of Sheik's at Meydan :pac:

    I'm on @ 7s EW as well.

I hope Tony has the money on before he left for Meydan!

Heartbreak City has given me a couple of lovely touches but to me he isn't in the same class as the Aga horse in the race. Lovely prep run a month ago and should win this.

Big difference in handicaps and hardened top class stayers I'd have though Heartbreak was quite a bad price. Could be some funny results especially on the turf course with heavy persistent rain there. The French horse is well drawn and likes soft ground in the turf sprint had a few quid e w at 28s. The first race Le Bernardin is very big e w at 25s

How come there's over an hour break between the 1st and 2nd race at Meydan

Vazirabad (5/2) and Deauville e/w (16/1) in Meydan.

    Very poor run

I gave him the kiss of death

Didn't seem to take to that ground at all, Vazirabad on the other hand relished it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,484 ✭✭✭Peintre Celebre

Probably not up to that level tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,702 ✭✭✭tryfix

Thunder Snow should be a good thing here, anyway with Lancaster Bomber in the race we're going to see last year's top 2yo form tested.

28/1 hope that improves my Alex Hammond like strike rate

Surprised at how tamely Ertijaal dealt with the extra furlong. The way he moved previously I'd of never expected such a poor finish from him here.

You do know he is the joint highest rated horse in race? Think he had an off day, which happens. My hopes were raised when the cash came. Not to be.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,767 ✭✭✭Ben Gadot

Ah jesus terrible to hear that. Such a good honest horse.

Such a shame about Reve, horse deserved a nice retirement well before now.

Ya would have a high rating after those wins but as I said coming from handicaps. First three home all proven high class stayers. Could prove me wrong during the year but would be amazed if he was winning group 2s or 1s as his rating would suggest he should

Brown trouser moment at the second last in Thurles, 1/3 fav a fence clear and nearly unships the jockey.

Nothing flukey about Polar River's win last time out. 22s e w without Arrogate and a huge price win on BF

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!

It is not like these horses that he went against were poor. Some of them know Meydan

Baffert has always been a bit worried about how he starts a race

In the US, the training is done in public, I saw one video of him . Handily ridden, he ran 5 furlongs in 59.00 seconds and was just gliding along.

The horse had a dreadful start , but trust Mike Smith many other jockeys would have bottled that. It really was not the jockey's fault there, the horse did that in his maiden. In the Pegeaus Smith had to really push him out of the stall too.

Any idea what price Arrogate was on BF after, let's say, crossing the line first time around?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,702 ✭✭✭tryfix

The great horses have gears and that horse has danced every dance and proved himself, but that horse was nowhere near as inconvenienced by his start than they're saying, he didn't so much miss the break as have a slow start so it was more a matter of managing his pace in the race than finding extra to win the race.

The time was a little slow compared to other World Cups but there was a strong wind.
You have to say he made good horses look like hacks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,107 ✭✭✭HarshOstrich

Karam Albari might of been 33/1 there at lingfield but travelled well around the home turn before tom quelly steered it into trouble.
Look back at it, there was no gap where he was going

There may have been a field behind him ( nothing above 118 ) but there wasn't a good field close to him, the 2nd was an OR 118 miler who Arrogate beat 15l the last time they met and the third had never even won a group race in his career and had in fact only broke his maiden in a $15,000 race before this race.

As a 134 horse Arrogate had more than a stone ( 9+ lengths ) in hand of the field, the race should have been little more than an exercise canter for him.

The hyperbole after today's race was silly season stuff.

I dont see it. Postponed didnt fire(and is overated imo) and Highland Reel didnt get loose on them. Jack Hobbs is capable of running to this Level. Why people need to claim something sinister is going on when they just dont understand what happened bothers me.
