Switching from J/A to Carers Allowance

I'm currently unemployed and on J/A, I've been taking care of my dad and have decided to apply for carers allowance as his condition has gotten worse recently and I can't see myself having time for a full-time job and taking care of him.

I've seen it advised to sign off the dole and apply for supplementary welfare allowance while waiting for a decision on the carers claim.

I'm just wondering what order to proceed with? should I sign off, then apply for supplementary welfare, then apply for carers? or should I sign off, then apply for carers, and then finally apply for supplementary welfare?

Any help would be really appreciated, thanks.
