From memory, I think that happens automatically? Doesn't it?

Yeah there's an option to save space by deleting phone photos that are already backed up. Check your settings.

No .They are removed off drive as soon as you sync

I want to be able to delete some photos on fone but have them remain in backup

Try using Google photos instead. This will not delete backup when you delete from phone

Yeah that's what I had meant to way. Back up using Google photos to the drive and then you can delete through the settings.

Bear in mind though that depending on how much Google Drive space you have, and how you've configured Google Photos to back up, the versions on Google may be of a lower quality than the originals.

Ah, OK. I think I was thinking of Google Photos then. Apologies...

The way I back up pictures to drive is through an 3rd party app called drive sync.

That way I keep my sub folder structures, Google photos is a wild mess otherwise.

Maybe check it out because there is an option to disable two way sync, ie you should be able to get rid of stuff off the phone but not delete it from drive.

    Hiding pictures eh ? ;)

    I don't like the 2 way sync

I prefer to have everything backed up automatically and stay there til i delete manually

Just use google photos, anything deleted on your device isn't deleted on the cloud. If you want to use your drive space, rather than free space, just choose to back up with original quality.

When you delete on device using Google photos it does delete on cloud

Anyone I'm using drive sync and quickpic now .It has' upload only' and seems to do the job

You just use 3 dot menu > delete device copy, or use the free up space option.
