Business Banking Online is a disgrace

I'm writing this post to warn anyone considering opening a business bank account with Bank of Ireland to strongly consider looking elsewhere. It's been mentioned on this forum before but the more posts warning users the better.

The BOI Business Online app is an utter disgrace and a pathetic offering from a bank that is trying to position itself as a tech savvy and attract the business of start-up companies. It's a farce.

Apart from the functional deficiencies of BOL (such as a severely limited view of recent transactions) it's incapable of making even the most basic online transfers.

In my latest frustrating engagement with BOL I've wasted an hour of my time trying to simply move money from my business account to a personal account - the most straight-forward operation you could expect from your online banking app.

    • I first tried to enter my digicert password in Firefox. It turns out Firefox have dropped their Java support (sensibly - it's not 1999 anymore). Instead of BOL returning an error message that simply states this, it returns a message about Java not initialising correctly (after "loading" for 45 seconds)
    • I changed browser to Safari and tried to login. Despite logging out of my previous session, BOL thought I was still logged in so locked me out for 15 minutes
    • When I finally got in, BOL wouldn't accept my password (hasn't changed since the last time). It locked my digicert.
    • Logged into the admin panel to re-enable it. Tried to log back in and got another 15 minutes lock-out
    • Waited and tried the digicert password again - still not working. Tried all the suggestions in the help section and then restarted my browser. Once again, locked out for 15 minutes.
    [*]

I can't believe I actually pay €10 a month for this. It's an insult and I will be making it a priority to open a new account with a competitor that actually make even the slightest effort to improve their service.

    Hi aosaigh,

Thanks for getting in touch with us here on Boards.ie

We're very sorry to hear you are having difficulties with BOL and will certainly pass on your feedback relating to the message when logging in.

We would like to offer you a call back to help with the login process. Could you send us a PM with your full name, business name on account, contact number and Branch account is held with?

We hope to hear from you soon.

To send a PM please make sure you have signatures set to display in your control panel settings and then click in the link in my signature below to send the message.

If you click on your username in the top right corner then go to Control Panel and then Edit Options. You then need to make sure you have Enable Private Messaging ticked, as well as Show Signatures. You should then be able to send us a Private Message.

    Many Thanks
    Alison

    Hi Alison,

Thanks for getting back to me and I appreciate you offering to organise a call back but I have already spoken to the helpline. My online banking is now essentially useless.
    • I am now locked out of my admin account. I was prompted to update both my administrator passwords. After doing so, the new passwords were either not updated or not accepted and I was locked out after trying to enter them. I now can't reset the passwords as I need the second director to call in who is currently out of the country.
    • Neither I, nor anyone in BOI is able to unlock or reset my digicert for my regular account so I can no longer make payments.

I've already organised a meeting with PTSB to open a new business bank account and I'll be making sure to close my BOI as soon as possible.

While I appreciate this is out of the hands of most of the staff who are left dealing with the mess it creates (and it's worth noting that all the staff I have dealt with have been very pleasant) it's a word of warning to anyone considering opening an account with BOI.
