Tappet noise?

I'm hoping someone could help. I got a 03 Almera 1.5 petrol. Just put a timing chain on it a couple of weeks ago. Driving fine.

There's a chain like rattle only when the engine warms up and only between 2k and 3k revs during idle and driving. When driving the rattle is there when feathering the throttle, say holding 100 on an even road. With even the slightest bit more pressure the noise stops. It does get louder with rpm.

I'm reasonably certain it's tappets on cylinder 1. Almost positive it's from the top half of the engine so not big end bearings. But I'm not sure. If i disable cylinder one no noise at any rpm.

Can anyone offer any advice? Ways to tell what tappet is giving trouble? If it even is tappets?
