    Evening all,

Looking for a bit of advice really.
Stopped at a branded petrol station on the way home and put 30 Diesel in on Sunday.
Monday morning car was a bit sluggish and monday evening car was virtually undrivable. Car was sputtering and no power.
Went to mechanic and he drained the diesel and put new fuel in and it has improved but still not perfect. He thought originally that I might have put Petrol in it because the colour and smell was off (his words). I checked the receipt and it was definetly diesel.

Does anyone have any experience in how I should proceed.

Thanks and sorry for long post

You would need a sample of this bad fuel, direct from the station pump. You can blame the station but you have absolutely no proof that there was anything wrong with their fuel, aside from your own assertion.

    Hi paulw,

I figured as much. I'll head over there tomorrow after work. How would I go around getting it tested?

Do Petrol stations have a procedure for this?

Issues with fuel can build up over a long period and people tend to blame the last fill.

If there was an issue with one fuel station, it would affect a large number of cars not just one.

The issue can be caused by many factors and mostly its a build up of deposits that have not passed through in normal motoring. Its advised to allow fuel tank to drop close to empty on a regular basis to move impurities out in normal driving. Many motorists keep topping up when there's half a tank left.

Also, if its a diesel car and not doing decent mileage, the performance can be affected.

So before blaming anyone, get someone to give a verifiable reason rather than a guess for the issue.

Yep. In my case, the last fill of fuel was perfect when the tank was sampled. I now buy all my fuel there.
