    Hi all,

I'm applying to a County Council job.

It doesn't specify on the application that block capitals are necessary. Would it matter if I used block capitals or not?

    Thanks,
    M

Most important thing is that is legible and clear.

In my opinion, if completing a provided application form for a job, then you should always use block capitals. It leads to enhanced readability and overall clarity. (In the olden days it was required to enable easier loading/scanning into a computer system - not sure if it required anymore).

Also, unless otherwise specified, you should use a black biro/pen to complete the application form (sometimes blue ink is required but it would state as such on the applciation form).

Generally, the only places where all block Capitals should not be used are (when looking for a job):
    CV
    Cover Letter
    General Correspondence

Disclaimer: I work in neither in a county council nor HR. Above is just my opinion.

I worked for a council at one point. Type it on a computer.it's a word document and easily edited.

I'm typing out the application, just checking to see if block capitals would be ideal (I'm guessing it would be) or if it matters.

In my opinion typing in block capitals would not look correct, would look like you are shouting and would be annoying to read.

If typing you should NOT use block capitals as it will look like you are SHOUTING!!!

It's more than just annoying - it is more difficult to read block capitals, especially if you have dyslexia. Words lose their shape in block capitals.

To add to my post and to agree with other posters: if typing then definitely do not use block capitals.

If completing the application form using a pen and paper then you should use block capitals as it is easier to read.
If typing up you should not use block capitals as it would look like you are shouting and is generally harder to read. In my opinion it also comes across as slightly computer illiterate (lack of experience and knowledge in basic computer activities).

We're I reviewing it'd go straight in the bin if all in blocks. Looks as if computer illiterate

Didnt realise you were typing.....type as you would normally, using caps, lower case and punctuation as necessary.
