mini one has been a car i have liked from it was first released. what are they like to drive? what are they like to run? are they economical?

im driving to college daily and do few nights delivery to keep the bills paid whilst im in college. I currently have a toyota yaris 2000 reg and im looking to upgrade car for comfort as using the car a fair bit and my yaris is ageing so i would like to move up the years a bit..

your thoughts on the mini one or advice please??

There was a facelift in late 04/early 05. They updated a load of parts and ironed out a few problems so I'd go for that.
    Facelifts have:
3 spoke steering wheel instead of 2 spoke (edit: the facelifts I just looked at on DD have 2 spoke wheels - maybe only the Coopers got the 3 spokes...)
3 piece dash instead of 5 piece
Reversing lights are contained within both rear light clusters rather than a single one low down in the centre of the rear valance. This became the rear fog light instead.

Some 05 registrations are pre-facelift and some 04's are facelifts - just look for the items I mentioned.

They are far from perfect and are a bit rattly, but they are good to drive.

They're not exactly built for comfort though.

    Colm speaketh the truth.

Not sure if they're all that economical either. Mine certainly isn't (but it's a Cooper S :P).

Lucky to get better than low 30s mpg from a non Cooper Mini One.

robust enough yokes if you get one that doesn't have the R65 gearbox, dunno what year they stopped using them but they were in early versions.

Lots of these suffer from a coolant system leaks......... stat housings, little cracks in expansion tanks.

Chain driven engines and the water pumps are good for it too.

As pointed out not the most comfy of cars but well built to be fair.

The 1.4 diesel version is the best. The engine is manufactured by Toyota (also used in the Yaris).
