Have spotted a light fixture that I love, but it is a wall light. It is hard wired, so my question is, can it be converted to a ceiling fixture? Cannot post a link, as I am a new user, but it is the St. Ives Mariner Light, available on lots of different UK websites.

Yes they generally can but will need some adaption. This would need to be done by some who knows what they are doing.

Most electrician won't touch this for a number of reasons, hassle, warranty problems, time involved etc...

Easyish - take off the bar and put a chain on it

You can get eye bolts to connect the chain to the light :

Thank you! Can I ask another rookie question - is buying light fixtures from the USA a mistake? Know their sockets are different to ours, so would there be differences in their wiring?

What might work better is something like a Searchlight 7611SI that you don't have to destroy and is designed to be a pendant light.
