    Hello,

Are there any Irish medical students here who have done a Canadian medical elective in the past? Here are a few questions to get the ball rolling:

Did you need to get any kind of work permit from the Canadian government? (separate from all of the university hospital red tape)
Did you get your medical exam in Ireland before you left and if so, how was it?
How did you find your experience in general?

I did 2 electives over there. 1 during intern yr when I had passed the ee and got pgy1 status. Another last yr as pgy3 status.

If you are using this as a bridge to applying for residency in Canada then unless you are pr or a citizen it be best to look at the states. You can't even apply for residency unless you are pr or citizen

Electives depend on which province you go to in terms of what you need. If it's Ontario you have to do it thru their lottery system which means you get a random date in a random speciality.
