Roseanne Barr brings "Drunk History" to Twitter

Following the success of the Drunk History TV series, in which people relate the story of historical events while pissed for the general amusement, if not the enlightenment, of everyone it seems that celebrated American comic actress Roseanne Barr has done something similar with her Twitter feed.

A series of tweets ranting about how supposedly anti-semitic we are has attracted a number of rebuttals online.

At least, I hope it's just drunk twittering. Would hate to think that such a talented woman believes this garbage.

She was so good in her eponymous TV sitcom in the early 90s along with John Goodman and several actors know in recurring or starring roles in The Big Bang Theory.

I've read a few accounts of her turning into one of those "Illuminati" exposing conspiracy theorists. She clearly holds some, er, unconventional beliefs. So, really, it wouldn't surprise me.

Barr’s Twitter rant continued into the early hours of the morning as complaints continued to pour into her statements.

Her point seems to be that, in her view, the Jewish people owned the land of Israel, much like the "Irish", if there was such a thing as hegemonic Irish people, owned Ireland. The land was then taken over by a larger enemy (presumably the Ottomans, but who knows, she could be talking about the sacking of the second Temple by Nebuchadnezzer or something) and in modern times, the original people came back to reclaim their land but faced serious opposition by the remnants of the descendants of the occupying power (the Palestinians or, I dunno, unionist/loyalists).

So Irish people saying that the Palestinians should have land in Israel is like, to her mind, like people saying the British should retain Irish land.

There are two problems with this theory:
1) it fails to take into account the nuances of each country's different history; and
2) it's complete and utter nonsense.

The only people who can claim an ancestral right to the land between river Jordan and the medeterranian are the Cannanites. Even then they problaby invaded and slaughtered an unnamed group of people who lived there before them. However, no one else who has come since has a better or absolute title to the land.

So too in Ireland with our proud "Celtic" heritage. In reality our Celtic links are dubious and even if they weren't they weren't the original inhabitants of the land.

I had a tweet from her last year, i had tweeted something about Israel and then she appears in my notifications out of the blue. I wasn't even aware she was on twitter. Quite strange as i used to watch her show years ago. Funny to think 30 years later she is contacting me on a platform that didn't even exist all those years ago.
